Please do not base a character on yourself. Seriously. Use characteristics from your life or personality, but when a character is based on you it just makes everyone roll their eyes.
Please do not get reality in my fiction. That's not where it belongs, stop doing that. This is doubly true when reading: if a storyline involves men in spandex flying by virtue of a miraculous mutation that does not cause impotence and death; throwing a temper tantrum over misuse of an obscure law of physics is kind of silly.
Please do not spend three paragraphs of dialogue explaining something when it can be illustrated in a splash page.
Please try to draw more than one body shape. If all your characters join a cult and to shave their heads, and then they all look alike; chances are you should spend more time with character designs. Or write a story about a plague of identity crisis, that could actually be really funny.
Please be consistent: kind of the opposite of the reality rule. I will gladly accept any reality you state is fact within your fantasy setting, but if you keep contradicting it or pulling out the rug, I am going to get irritated and bored.
There is this law in game development that raising level caps is a bad idea: it creates a never ending cycle and makes everything previously encountered obsolete. In essence this means that if you keep raising the upper limit of power it makes people less likely to get excited about challenges. This principle works in writing as well; eventually you will have to get to the point where someone has to blow up a planet to be "impressive". Tone it back a bit, ok?
Not everyone has to agree with you. This includes your own characters. Or even your own reality.
Theological lesson for you: Angels are soldiers, not supermodels.
Being weird is less memorable than being clever.
Please be stupid sometimes. I'd really like that. Nothing looses me faster than something that takes itself too seriously; this doesn't mean breaking the fourth wall on a constant basis, or being over the top silly. It just means I appreciate it if you ease up from time to time and show something a little lighter that may illustrate the characteristics of the cast that does not involve violence, brooding, or discussing how you managed to put a piece of the Death Note into your wallet.
Now that I mentioned it; The Fourth wall gag is hilarious in moderation. It's annoying and clumsy if used excessively.
All governments are assholes. This is because any group of people in excess of 4 are assholes. No one is shocked by this realization past the age of ten.
You know those "Hot and sexy" female characters that take advantage of men, and seemingly no one with a XY chromosome has the ability to tell them 'No'? I laugh when they get murdered or beat up. The highlight of Tranformers2 for me was when the skank got smeared with the car. Good times.
We had child prodigy characters when I was a little kid too. Even when I was a lad I thought Wesley Crusher was an annoying fucktard.
Tough Girls do not have to be tomboys.
Yes, sometimes in the real world there are people who are utterly worthless who just happen to get things by seeming chance or fate. I don't want to read about them either.
Before you try to write cyberpunk, please read something by William Gibson. And 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep'. Yes I know its a lot of words without any pictures. Cyberpunk is a mood, and most of you are confusing it with emo rock.
There is nothing wrong with having romance in your story, stop being a weenie.
You do realize psychologists are nothing like that, right? ("doot dee doo, I make psychologists go crazy 'cause I'm so weird and smarter than they are lolololololololololololololol")
I am way more impressed by the strength it takes to forgive than by the strength it takes to kill for something selfish like revenge.
Having a message or moral is great. But please stop beating me over the head with it.
Please let me decide which character I want to like.
Needs more porn.

Nytrinia was applauded that you are not on my watch-list and I am most sincerely and overwhelmingly sorry for this horrid slight!
