Matron and scource of the Kurai no Tatsu: Lady Orochi.

Not bad for an old hag really...

Anyways; this just started as a doodle I did at work - so the anatomy and body positioning is a bit odd. I DO like how the silk came out though :)

Lady Orochi? Perhaps it is because I am not familiar with your work, but it seems strange to have a name that means(or is at least associated with) snake(s) have antlers. I also can't find a definition of Tatsu. But it is an interesting coincidence that we, who have never met, have come up with similar names for characters: both are Kurai, and have the syllable tsu. Yours is just Ta and mine is Ne. (I'll post pics as soon as I have access to a scanner)

Aha! Ah mythology buff in the house :). As a matter of fact - Orochi the name comes from a snake yuppers (and this is why she is called the pale serpent). The antlers are a bit of a nod to chinese mythology: who often have antlers on the serpentine dragons.

Ah, so she's more of a dragon lady than a snake lady. That's an important distinction to make, even though oriental dragons are very serpentine (even serpentine dragons have legs, unless they are the Great Wyrms of european myth).
Yeah, I am a mythology buff. Not only have I studied it in school, I read ancient myths in my free time for fun (for my 18th b-day, my father bought me a translation of ancient Welsh myths!). Yama no Orochi is the Japanese snake/river god I was specifically thinking of. Originally considered benevolent, the god was considered evil when the river became violent. Yama no Orochi was then killed by some hero whose name I can't remember, and the hero pulled a sword from the god's belly.

Other than us both being mythology buffs, I'm not. But then, as I said in my original post, beyond this one picture I know nothing of your work. I guess I better go check out your gallery, huh?

o_O It's me? <feels for antlers>

I actually like doing color work alot: the problem is simply that it soaks up a great deal of time for me (though Im getting more efficient with it all the time). Alot of my artwork is intended to be Black and white - so it usually looks more natural that way.

I know what you mean about the jump from black and white to color.
